Why we do what we do?

Uganda with a population of 45.7 million with 52% being under the age of 15. Many end up unemployed or under employed or with poor work ethic for those who are employed. This is because the education system values theory rather than practice. This challenge greatly impacts the Church and discipleship. We launched the Ideas Workshop and Internship in Discipleship program to address this reality.

We train youth in Carpentry and Metal Fabrication while doing business projects as well to help us raise money which workshop earnings are used to support this ministry.

Once interns graduate from the Internship in Discipleship, while others are equipped to start their own businesses in their specified localities.

How we do what we do

The Ideas Workshop runs two training programs and one income generation project.
IiD trains 4 S.6 Leavers from February to August annually.
WSP normally trains graduates of IiD for an additional year in advanced Bible study skills, vocational skills and leadership development.
We are also working together with the Deaf Action Uganda (DAU) to train and equip the hearing-Impaired young men with Carpentry and metal fabrication
Both training programs function in the context of a real metal fabrication and woodworking business. Our desire is for the workshop to generate enough income to cover the costs of our training programs.

Wood Work

We do have staff that’s is skilled in making items from wood, like cabinet making (Cabinetry and Furniture), Wood carving, joinery, carpentry, and wood turning.

We also do wood engraving at our workshop for those interested in signature and writings on wood board.

CNC

CNC-Computer Numeric Control

CNC is the automated control of machining tools and 3D printers by means of a computer. At Ideas Workshop we have a CNC machine that processes a piece of material to meet our customer specifications and design by following a coded programmed instructions and without a manual operator directly controlling the machining operation

Wood Router

We us the CNC machine to do smart 2D & 3D routing, cutting, carving, drilling, grooving, or milling on most popular woodworking projects, including wood crafts, wood arts, wood signs making, cabinet making, wood door making, wood gifts, wood toys, wood modeling, decorations, wardrobe and other wood furniture making. These are possible because a CNC wood router machine is composed of machine frame, CNC controller, spindles, T-slot table or vacuum table, gantry, CNC software, CNC operating system & motor.

Engraving

Engraving is mainly used for stainless steel, alloyed metals and other metals. it is also used on wood. The engraving or, depending on material removal, deep engraving leaves a noticeable marking. The material is removed, in other words, material evaporates and the color changes.

Metal is complex: conductive, reactive, and composed of chemicals, and alloys so, when you are looking for a rotary or laser marking machine for metal, the best solution will depend on the type of metal you will be engraving:

  • Stainless steel Aluminum
  • Anodized aluminum
  • Hardened metals
  • Steel alloy
  • Titanium and titanium alloys
  • Carbides
